MY COMMUNITY

MEDITATION AND MINDFULNESS

IHET broadens the breath and depth of their community by sharing the life-giving gift unwrapped and unveiled from the anti-mindfulness mindfulness mission of their one and only daughter. Please share this gift of love to your family, friends and community.

Meditation and mindfulness are two different concepts that embody the human need to take good care of ourselves and our mental well-being. Despite the marked differences, they are interrelated and intertwined in our pursuit for inner peace and true happiness. As we are all the cause of God's love, we are called to look after ourselves so that we can extend this love to others, particularly to those who have fallen captives to abandonment, neglect and loneliness. We can learn practical techniques to tune in to ourselves so we can reach out to others and show compassion and unconditional love.

Trish, a beloved daughter of IHET, is an experienced meditation teacher accredited by and registered with the Meditation Association of Australia. Her non-prescriptive, person-centered and religion-friendly technique amplifies self-regulation and epitomises simplicity in creating daily meditative routines and spaces for personal health and well-being. Learn from her refreshing and reinvigorated Mindful Makers and Doers Club projects for insights and practical tools in mindful living and mindful being. This new brand is a spin-off from her original conceptualisation of the Anti-Mindfulness Mindfulness Club (AMMC). Trish is currently working on her law degree and sourcing ground-breaking ideas on how to connect her cultural heritage as a Filipino woman with her inclusive self-help vision.

IHET supports all her good works, especially during this season of Lent in Christendom when prayer and meditation can be used together to discern and search the true essence and meaning of the passion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are truly grateful for the simple joys she brings to people's lives and the life-enriching insights she extends to those who need self-care guidance and support. Carry on and soldier on Trish!

MY GIFT

KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM

IHET ushers in the autumn season with the gift of knowledge and wisdom drawn from decades of scholarly work, from teaching to research, academic writing and pedagogical endeavours. In this section, we share the good fruits borne out of an empirical study that explored the interactive effects of Transactional Analysis (TA) on youth adjustment.

TA is a practical and rational approach to understanding human behaviour and personality. It is a psychological and social theory with mutual contracting for change and growth founded by Eric Berne (1910-1970). Berne claimed that transactional analysis evolved from his clinical experience. Basic TA concepts were grounded on observable behaviour changes occurring in a client when a stimulus such as a gesture or a sound entered the focus of the therapist. These changes involved facial expressions, word intonations, sentence structures, body movements and posture, tics and carriage as though there were several different persons inside the person.

TA therapists analyse the way the various selves or ego states in TA terminology - Parent, Adult and Child - transacted with other people and the environment. This analytical process makes it possible to identify and understand motives used to manipulate people and situations that nay result in maladaptive behaviour and psychopathology.

IHET completed a research project leading to the award of a Master’s degree in Education major in Guidance and Counselling. The thesis entitled, “Using Transactional Analysis to Enhance Adjustment in Filipino College Students”, has received global recognition. This research endeavour has been peer-reviewed and published in world acclaimed scientitic journals such as the Transactional Analysis Journal, Research Gate, Sage Journals, and Taylor & Francis Online. Access to Research Gate is provided here for your interest.

MY PRAYER

DEVOTION AND DISCERNMENT

IHET marks the month of March as the Lenten season for many Christians and Ramadan for many of our Muslim brothers and sister halfway from February until mid-March. These faith-based traditions are highlighted by an extended period of meditation, reflection and repentance through prayer, almsgiving or good works and fasting. Religious practices attached to this season may also carry a cultural significance for many of us and so may require respect and reverence from the wider community.

The Stations of the Cross is a traditional devotion practised by many Christians particularly Anglicans, Catholics and Lutherans during the season of Lent. It is a devotional commemoration of the sorrowful journey of Jesus Christ to Calvary leading up to His death, crucifixion and resurrection. Traditionally, there are fourteen stations, however, Catholics have been encouraged by the Papacy to include a fifteenth station to complete the journey on a positive note and prepare for the Easter celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The reinvented fifteen stations therefore are :

(1) Jesus is condemned to death.

(2) Jesus carries His cross.

(3) Jesus falls the first time.

(4) Jesus meets his sorrowful mother Marry.

(5) Jesus is helped by Simon of Cyrene to carry His cross.

(6) Jesus is comforted by Veronica by wiping His face of His blood and sweat.

(7) Jesus falls the second time.

(8) Jesus tells the women of Jerusalem not to weep for Him but for their children.

(9) Jesus falls the third time.

(10) Jesus is stripped of His garments.

(11) Jesus is nailed to the cross.

(12) Jesus dies on the cross.

(13) Jesus is taken down from the cross.

(14) Jesus is placed in the sepulchre.

(15) Jesus is risen from the dead.

Each station is followed by the supplication: “We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You, because by Your holy cross You have redeemed the world”. A short reflection can be shared by the prayer leader. Traditional prayers such as the Lord’s Prayer, the Hail Mary and the Glory Be may also be incorporated into the prayer sequence.
